| Audition Information
2008 Auditions for Band & Orchestra – July 30
Schedule your auditions early because they are filling up! An Audition is required to be enrolled in Advanced/Concert Band or Advanced/Symphony Orchestra. The 2008 auditions are on July 30 by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, email your request to wmhfa@charter.net . Appointments will be scheduled on a first come basis. Include name of the group, student name, instrument and phone number. If you cannot make the July 30 audition or if the schedule fills up, you will be scheduled for an earlier date.

Advanced & Concert Band Audition: The Advanced/Concert Band audition music is on page 21 in Essential Technique 2000, exercise #99, “Time Zones” plus the “Tonguing Exercise”. Sight-reading is also required. Scores based on Tone, Prepared Music, Sight Reading, and the Tonguing Exercise. Advanced & Concert Band Percussion: Prepared music for snare is on pages 38-39 in Essential Technique 2000, be prepared to play selections from both pages, Plus: the “Tonguing Exercise” (as fast as possible), AND 16 count snare drum roll ppp to fff back to ppp (< >) 1 beat per second.
Please note: To honor copyright laws we cannot send copies of audition music. WMHFA and the local music stores carry the books listed for auditions.
Advanced & Symphony Orchestra Audition: All Strings: page 37, Essential Technique 2000 for Strings, # 184, “Habanera”. Violins and Violas: page 21, Essential Technique 2000 for Strings, #116, “Dona Nobis Pacem”. Cellos and Basses page 27, Essential Technique 2000 for Strings, #137, “Simple Gifts”. The audition will also consist of 1 Major and 1 minor scale of your choice (Violin/viola/cello students auditioning for Symphony must play C Major/a minor scales - 3 octaves and a short piece of your choice), and a sight-reading provided at the audition. Advanced & Symphony Orchestra Winds & Percussion Audition: Same as listed above for bands Intermediate Band Audition for NEW STUDENTS (returning students do not audition) The prepared music for the Intermediate Band audition is on page 130 in Essential Elements 2000, Book 2, exercise #100, “Sight-reading Challenge”. Students may also be asked to sight-read. Intermediate Band Percussion: prepared music for snare is on page 164 in Essential Elements 2000, Book 1, exercise #122, “Jumpin’ for Joy”. Students may also be asked to do sight-reading.
